Denis Petrissans and Dominique Camou (Bakersfield) are working together to promote the sport of pelota by having kids compete in a friendly yet competitive manner without the “them versus us” attitude. They both agree that the game itself, is what’s important so they will often mix the Bakersfield players with the Chino players creating, what they consider, one expanded team.
It is “a unique sport and the way it is played today is the way it was played since the beginning,” says club member Mike Aphessetche. He goes on to say, “… I would like to think that it puts a smile on some of the first generation players faces to see that we haven’t forgotten how to play the game that they passed on to us.”
Practices are usually held every Sunday at 9:00 a.m., but due to COVID-19 practices are on hold.
Meanwhile, if you’re interested in playing handball once available, let the pelota coordinator know.
